X-Hab 3D is proud to have made its first unrestricted gift of $10,000 to Penn State Stuckeman School (Department of Architecture) in support of its ongoing research and teaching in concrete 3D printing. The funds were used to support an interdisciplinary Directed Research Studio (DRS) in the fall of 2022, where design proposals including hands-on experiments were developed. The project entailed the design and 3D printing of a sequence of related structures to support the use of the Musser Gap Trail, providing the necessary services for the hikers and mountain bikers visiting the Rothrock State Forest. The project embodied the social mission of the University by creating an inclusive environment for the community while generating curiosity about 3DCP as a new, inexpensive, and efficient mode of construction.

The University Planning Office is assessing the possibility of further developing and building selected aspects of the proposals using X-Hab 3D’s upcoming expeditionary mobile printer.
